and I managed to snag a two digit number, 86, in all three organizations I run in.

Kinja'd!!!

This means I need to get some new number magnets printed up by my good buddy Dylan over at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . #brokagain

Two digit numbers open up possibilities that three digits numbers don’t, like meatballs!

I’ve decided to style my numbers and class designation after a retro Toyota race car, but am currently debating between two.

Option #1: the Shelby 2000GT.

Kinja'd!!!

I’d basically try to replicate the number that’s on the hood, in terms of black on white meatballs with the same font.

Option #2: this Celica 1600GT rally car.

Kinja'd!!!

No meatballs here, and a lot more logos that won’t be included to fully match the livery idea either. However, the wheels are a much closer match, and I could potentially place the STX class designation where the “RAC” sits above the numbers.

Curious to hear what my fellow Oppos think would look better. I’m pretty evenly split between the two, in terms of how much I like the ideas.

it’s a Toyota 2000GT that Caroll Shelby used in 1968 SCCA production car races

Carol Shelby built two 2000GT SCCA C-Production race cars with funding from Toyota for the 1968 season. They were driven by Davey Jordan and Scooter Patrick, finishing 3rd (Scooter) and 4th (Davey) in the championship points that season behind two 911s.

Unfortunately, Toyota deemed this a failure and never raced the 2000GT in the USA again.

Yeah, I like a lot of the rally stuff and I’ve also looked at the 1986 IMSA Celica GTO as a possible inspiration too.

what class are you going to end up in this year with all your mods?

STX. Coilovers and wheels bumped me into there. I’ve got the header too, but still need a tune and fp/op. I’ll likely get the rest of the exhaust stuff together near the end of summer. Too much going on between now and then. I need to be able to afford going to Le Mans! haha

I’m definitely not anywhere near what would be considered a truly competitive prep, I’d need at least 17x9s with 245 RE71Rs and the header/tune installed, but should be able to do okay. Assuming my driving can improve. haha

Hopefully there’s better participation in the class than there was last year. A few guys where in it consistently, but at least one is switching to CS this season. Should still be a few that’ll put up a good fight though, especially up in MKE. The STX guys in MKE are FAST.

You should get the re71Rs, I caught a ride for a lap in an NA with them and was blown away, god tire indeed.

Ever find a tooner for your car? My 15+ group is looking for a couple more people to sign up for time to get Mike Botti to come to town to tune. He tunes 86s and everyone I know (FA20DITs) with one of this tunes loves it.

I’m still researching tunes for the car, but haven’t looked into it much. Definitely going EcuTek though.

The RE71Rs might happen in time, but I’d have to pick up another set of wheels for that, and don’t feel like dropping another $1,500-2,000 right now. I’m not all that serious about autox this year. Perhaps next season I’ll have my Watanbes for dailies, and then pick up a 17x8 set with RS3V2 or ZII* for track days and a set of 17x9s with 245 RE71Rs to make a more serious run at autox. We will see though.
